As flowers bloom and the weather warms, it’s the ideal time to enjoy local attractions. Enjoy one of our four favorite spring activities in Bristol, TN.
1. Tour Bristol Caverns
Spend the day beneath the Earth’s surface, exploring these awe-inspiring rock formations. Bristol Caverns was formed through erosion by the ancient Underground River more than 200 million years ago. Today, you can safely retrace the paths of native settlers on well-lighted and paved walkways.
Beginning March 14, this fascinating site will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tours leave from the gift shop every 20 minutes and last about an hour. Bristol Caverns is located at 1157 Bristol Caverns Highway.
2. Visit Backyard Terrors and Dinosaur Park
This interesting attraction features life-size, scientifically accurate dinosaur models as well as a fossil dig site. It’s a must-visit location for the dino lovers in your life. Backyard Terrors and Dinosaur Park is less than 30 minutes from Bristol at 1065 Walnut Grove Rd in Bluff City. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Admission is free with a suggested $5 donation to the park’s nonprofit organization, so bring the entire crew in your Honda Passport.
3. Attend the Woolly Days Heritage Celebration at Rocky Mount State Historic Site
Stroll through the beautiful restored gardens and learn about local history at the fun, free Woolly Days Heritage Celebration. You can take part in interactive workshops on crafting and colonial gardening, view historical reenactments, enjoy live music and entertainment, and browse food and art vendors. The event takes place on Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. Rocky Mount State Historic Site is about 20 minutes from Bristol at 200 Hyder Hill Rd in Piney Flats.
4. Enjoy the Outdoors on Bays Mountain
Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium hosts family activities all year, including spring wildflower and mushroom walks with a naturalist. You can hike and bike on miles of trails or bring a picnic and bask in the sunshine. Entrance to the park costs $7 per vehicle and nature program registration starts at $3.
From March through May, the park is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bays Mountain is about 40 minutes from Bristol at 853 Bays Mountain Park Rd in Kingsport.
