1. Enjoy the 6th Annual Pepper Fest
Spice up your weekend with a visit to the Pepper Fest, held October 26 at the Downtown Center, 810 State Street. Attendees can meet the winners of the Miss Pepper Fest Pageant, purchase hot pepper plants, sample sauces, watch culinary demonstrations, and enjoy live music and food trucks. The fun takes place from 2 to 7 p.m. Free parking is available along State St and at the lot at 826 State St.
2. Attend Downtown Halloween Festivities
Celebrate spooky season with a full day of events downtown on October 26. The fun starts at 9 a.m. with Pumpkin Palooza at the State Street Farmers Market. Kids can wear costumes, go trick-or-treating, and decorate a pumpkin to bring home. The market, located at 810 State St, celebrates its 25th season this year. Then head to Cumberland Square Park at 200 Lee St at 11 a.m. for the costume contest.
Downtown businesses will host trick-or-treating starting at 5 p.m. The night ends with a parade down State St at 7 p.m. You can bring the whole neighborhood to the event in your spacious Honda Pilot.
3. Visit Steele Creek Park for Wildlife Weekend
Stroll the trails at Steele Creek Park to see the leaves change colors and enjoy the autumn air. The park features a disc golf course, paddle boat rentals, a playground, and golf. Don’t forgot to bring a picnic to have on the shores of Steele Creek Park Lake. You can also attend the Wildlife Weekend event October 11 and 12 for a photo contest, author readings and signings, bird walks, hikes, demonstrations, and interactive displays.
You can also tour the 8,000-square-foot nature center, which hosts educational exhibits and events. It’s open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The park is located at 4 Little Ln.
