Your Honda includes a range of driver assistance systems known as Honda Sensing. These systems use advanced cameras, radar, and sensor technology to scan the area around your vehicle and warn of potential accidents. Some of these systems also actively intervene to protect you and your passengers. We’re going to look closer a a few of these Honda safety features and how they keep you safe.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
This state-of-the-art system uses radar and a forward-facing camera to monitor the road ahead. It can identify a vehicle in front of you, then use the radar to determine if you’re closing too fast and an accident is possible. It provides audible and visual warnings of an impending accident to alert you so you can brake or take evasive action to prevent it.
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
LKAS uses a forward-facing camera mounted above your rearview mirror to identify lane line markings. Once the lines have been identified, it works to keep you centered in your lane. If the system detects you’re drifting toward the lane lines and aren’t actively steering, it provides steering torque to turn your wheel back toward the center of your lane.
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
This system is similar to LKAS, but its camera identifies road edge markers and intervenes if you’re going to inadvertently leave the road. It will provide visual and audio alerts to warn you so you can turn back.
If you continue to drift toward the road edges, the steering wheel will lightly direct your wheels into your lane again. It can also apply emergency braking to prevent your wheels from leaving the road.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
ACC can be set to maintain a specific speed, making it very useful on the highway if driving long distances. It has an additional feature that lets you choose your following distance. If a vehicle is identified in front of you, your Honda will keep that distance behind it and apply the brakes when necessary to maintain the set distance.
Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
TSR uses a small camera to scan for traffic signs and speed restrictions. It can be easy to sometimes miss these signs, but the camera will see them. An icon will appear on your screen identifying the sign and speed restriction so you can reduce speed if needed.
